The 2007 ASDA Kwik Cricket competition will be launched by Andrew Flintoff before the first npower Test Match against West Indies in May but the ever popular girls' competition has stolen a march by recruiting some heavyweight support among England’s women stars.

Over 15,000 girls from 1,500 primary schools took part in last year’s competition, which proved more popular than ever.

England star Rosalie Birch has been a fan of Kwik Cricket ever since she started playing in Sussex as a young girl.

“I remember playing at the County Ground, Hove in my local Kwik Cricket final when I was 11,” she said.

“And here I am today, still loving the game and getting to travel the world with the England team playing it. ASDA Kwik Cricket is a great way to get into cricket and to keep active in general. It’s fast, fun and requires many different skills, and lots of girls like me love it!“

Megan Smith, of England Women’s Team Management, also gave girls Kwik Cricket the thumbs up!

She said: “Cricket is no longer just for the boys. Girls' cricket is continuing to grow in popularity and through competitions such as ASDA Kwik Cricket, girls have to chance to play and enjoy this great game.”

Taking part in Kwik Cricket is easy. Send an email to schools@ecb.co.uk to get an information pack.

To enter the school's competition and win a chance to meet Andrew Flintoff, teachers should contact their local organisers - see the Cricket Development Managers section for contact info.
