Record entry for ASDA Kwik Cricket

A record 125,000 schoolchildren are taking part in this year’s ASDA Kwik Cricket Competition which is now underway in schools across England and Wales.

This year the National Finals are being held at Kibworth CC on July 9 for girls and five days later at Grace Road, Leicester, for the year six mixed group.

By the time the finals are played more than 10,000 schools will have taken part with the top 16 battling it out to become national champions.

The competition has grown very popular - the girls’ competition has doubled in size since last year and the whole competition has grown nearly 25 per cent. But it’s not just about becoming national champions. Kwik Cricket actively encourages children of all ages and skill levels to have a go and play their part in a team.

Competition sponsors ASDA also help promote a healthy lifestyle to the children as they attend many of the events giving out free fruit, healthy snacks and water to the children.

England bowler Stuart Broad will be helping launch the competition on May 30. It was not long ago that Stuart himself was playing Kwik Cricket at his local club and school although the game has been going so long now that almost all of the current England team can remember playing it.

Kwik Cricket is a simple game for all boys and girls from five years of age upwards. It is currently played in 8,000 primary schools and over 4,500 of the 6,000 ECB affiliated clubs. It’s designed to provide children with an introduction to cricket and can be played either indoors or outdoors.

It forms an integral part of the ECB’s strategic goal of increasing the levels of participation amongst children. So why not contact your local Cricket Development Manager and find out where your nearest Kwik Cricket club is?
