NatWest CricketForce 2008 attracted a record 1375 clubs (225 up on last year), 85,000 volunteers (5,000 up on 2007) and an estimated £35-£40 million in cash and kind (an increase of up to £5million on last year)

NatWest CricketForce encourages cricket supporters, their friends and families to give something back to their local community cricket club by volunteering to undertake major renovations to clubhouses and grounds.

NatWest CricketForce 2008, on the weekend of April 4, 5 and 6 2008, had a focus on green issues in cricket.

Phil Hope MP, Volunteering Minister, said: “Volunteers are the life-blood of sport and give their time, and their energy to sustainable projects aimed at improving a sporting facility for the whole community. NatWest CricketForce is the biggest annual volunteering event in sport and a fantastic way to attract new volunteers to sport.

“The Government is fully committed to supporting all forms of volunteering and is investing significantly in creating a culture of volunteering.”

Minister for Sport, Gerry Sutcliffe, added: “NatWest CricketForce is an excellent project that gives a boost to local clubs up and down the country. It encourages volunteering and results in improved facilities for players at the grassroots of the game.

"It’s great that the initiative is supported by so many people - from fans to England players - and I wish everyone taking part in this weekend’s activities the best of luck.”
