Many volunteers volunteer in order to get experience that will make them more desirable in the job market. It is therefore a good idea to appraise volunteers on a regular basis.
An appraisal will provide you with the opportunity to praise all volunteers and it will also provide you with an opportunity to talk to volunteers who are not doing so well and help them to improve.
It will certainly give the volunteer valuable information regarding his/her ability to go armed to a job interview. One way to capture the interest of a prospective employer is to show that one is an active citizen! It is a common misconception that there is only one right way to design a CV. Actually the most important thing is to present the information in such a way as to document and support any career goal.
One approach that a volunteer could adopt in the writing of their CV is to integrate their work with you under the heading of 'Work Experience' for even if the work they do for you is unpaid, it certainly is productive ‘work’ and should count as 'experience'.
It is unadvisable for volunteers to use the word 'volunteer' as a job title - it's an adjective and does not convey the work that they accomplished.
Use coach or administrator or project coordinator and then describe the volunteer work in terms of achievements.
