ECB Flood Relief - Case Studies
In 2007, the England and Wales Cricket Trust Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the England and Wales Cricket Board, made a £250,000 relief fund available for cricket clubs devastated by the summer's flooding.
Over the next few months, more than £150,000 was distributed to around 30 ECB affiliated clubs from £288 awarded to Barkby United CC in Leicestershire to pay for the removal of algae to five awards of the maximum £10,000 made to Tewkesbury CC, Evesham CC, Sileby Town CC, Wath CC in Yorkshire and Tenbury Wells CC, all of them brought perilously close to ruin by the floods.

Flood Relief Case Study - Charlbury CC (313 KB)
Charlbury CC in Oxfordshire received £5,000 which went mostly on hiring mowers, a roller and a tractor to replace the equipment damaged when the River Stour burst its banks and left the pavilion submerged in three metres of water and the scorebox floating off into the distance.
Charlbury CC under water The pavilion was condemned and an appeal set up to fund the building of a new wooden structure at the other end of the field at a cost of £200,000, to be completed by May 2008.
Around £1,000 was spent on re-loaming the squares and the total cost of the damage caused by the floods was expected to reach £7,000, excluding the pavilion.
Flood Relief Case Study - Tenbury Wells CC (304 KB)
Tenbury Wells CC was repeatedly flooded in late June/early July 2007. The ground was under water for a number of days could only be accessed by boat. Whilst the pavilion escaped the worst of the water, the playing surface and surrounding area was severely damaged.
The square was contaminated and the grass was predominantly dead or dying when the waters receded.

The square has been re-laid and the removal of four condemned horse chestnut trees arranged. The grass growth has been exceptionally good thanks to a mild October and the Club is expecting to play again next season.
The investment has also inspired some local benefactors to contribute to the project and the Club’s immediate financial problems have been alleviated. 
Repairs underway at Tenbury
The ECB continues to lobby for more support and match funding to ensure that all applications for funds can be considered for all kinds of projects designed to maximise the prospect of cricket returning to the club site in terms of access and the field of play.
