The ECB announced that following a board meeting it was determined that rule 40 of the First-class Regulations and Playing Conditions – ‘Changing the Venue for the Match’ - should be amended under the board’s powers to offer counties the opportunity to maximise play with relocations to neutral venues where appropriate, as a result of the exceptional weather conditions experienced this year.
The following amendment has been made to rule 40 and will come into effect Thursday July 27, 2007:
"The venue should preferably be within the county or a recognised venue used by the county in question. If no such venue is available then a neutral venue preferably within the region of the originally scheduled match may be considered. In no circumstances will it be permissible for the match to be re-scheduled at a venue normally or occasionally used as a home venue by the scheduled away county."
