The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) today confirmed that five cricketers have received penalty points or reprimands under the ECB’s discipline code.
David Nash was reported by umpires Andy Hicks and Charlie Puckett for a Level Two breach of the code (showing serious dissent to an umpire’s decision by word or action) following an incident in Middlesex’s Second XI Championship game against Kent, between 11-13 June 2008.
Mehraj Ahmed was reported by umpires David Millns and Jonathan Cousins for a Level Two breach of the code (bowling an accidental high full pitched delivery that resulted in the bowler being disallowed from bowling further in the innings) following an incident in Worcestershire’s Second XI Championship match against Surrey between 10-13 June.
Anthony Ireland was reported by umpires Richard Illingworth and Trevor Jesty for a Level Two breach of the code (bowling an accidental high full pitched delivery that resulted in the bowler being disallowed from bowling further in the innings) following an incident in Gloucestershire’s match against Warwickshire in the Twenty 20 Cup on June 13.
Mal Loye was reported by umpires John Holder and Peter Willey for a Level Two breach of the code (using language or gesture that is obscene or of a serious insulting nature to another player, umpire, referee, team official or spectator) following an incident in Lancashire’s match against Durham in the Twenty 20 Cup on June 17.
Yasir Arafat was reported by Umpires George Sharp and Neil Mallender for a Level Two breach of the code (bowling an accidental high full pitched delivery that resulted in the bowler being disallowed from bowling further in the innings) following an incident in Kent’s match against Essex in the Twenty 20 Cup on June 18 2008.
These players have all received three penalty points, which will remain on their records for a period of two years.
Anthony Ireland now has six penalty points against his name following a similar incident earlier in the 2008 season. The accumulation of nine or more penalty points in any two-year period will result in an automatic suspension.
David Wheeldon was reported by umpires David Millns and Jonathan Cousins for a Level One breach of the code (showing dissent to an umpire’s decision by word or action) following an incident in Worcestershire’s Second XI Championship match against Surrey between June 10-13, and has received a reprimand.
This penalty remains on Wheeldon’s record for a period of two years. Any further Level One breach during that period will result in an automatic imposition of three penalty points.
