Joyce stars for Lions

A hundred from Ed Joyce laid the foundations for England Lions’ 176-run victory over the Saurashtra Cricket Association in the final game of their India tour.

Joyce hit 15 fours in his 104 as England set an imposing total of 298 for seven after winning the toss in Mumbai.

In reply, the home side capitulated to 122 all out in the 34th over with Charlie Shreck claiming 4-37.

The Lions lost opening batsman Michael Carberry with the score on 13 but Joe Denly then forged a 122-run partnership with Joyce to regain the initiative.

Denly was caught by Saurya Sanandiya - who took 3-52 with the ball - off Nayan Doshi for 56 but Joyce got plenty of support throughout his knock.

Andrew Flintoff came to wicket with quick runs needed and he hit a rapid 23 in his second innings since his fourth ankle operation, while James Hildreth's 43 and captain Michael Yardy's 42 ensured a more than competitive total.

The home side lost wickets at regular intervals throughout their innings with Shreck the main beneficiary, and Joyce continued his excellent performance by collecting three catches as wicketkeeper - a role he has performed before for the Lions.

England seamers Alan Richardson and Steve Kirby were also in the wickets with two apiece, Flintoff taking a catch at slip in relaxed fashion for one of Richardson’s victims. Flintoff reported no ill effects at the end of play.
