Steady drizzle through the morning which turned into heavy showers in the afternoon washed out the first day of Kent's LV County Championship Division One match against Surrey at Canterbury.
After several inspections of the ground, which was left with puddles on the outfield, it was eventually decided by the umpires that there would be no play at 3pm.
The match is of considerable importance to both sides as Surrey, who are in the relegation zone, urgently need points from their three remaining games.
On the other hand, a victory for Kent in this match could lift them to the top of the table.
