LV County Champions Durham will be formally presented with the Lord’s Taverners ECB Trophy at Buckingham Palace tomorrow.
Head coach Geoff Cook will be handed the trophy by Bill Tidy, president of the Lord’s Taverners, shortly after lunch.
The victorious players and staff will have lunch at the Lord’s Taverners headquarters in the palace before a reception with HRH The Duke of Edinburgh in the afternoon.
Matthew Patten, Taverners chief executive, will then escort the team to Buckingham Palace where the Duke, Prince Philip, will present the team with the trophy and winners’ medals.
The Duke of Edinburgh has been patron and Twelfth Man of The Lord’s Taverners since 1950.
Cook said: “It is a great honour for us to be going to Buckingham Palace to be presented with the Trophy.
“It’s a marvellous way to top off what has been an excellent year for us. It will be a truly memorable experience and we’re really looking forward to it.”
Durham won the LV County Championship on the last day, beating Kent by an innings and 71 runs, while rivals Nottinghamshire were beaten by Hampshire at Trent Bridge.
