Jones to face Derbyshire

Simon Jones is ready to return

England seamer Simon Jones is back in Glamorgan’s LV County Championship side for the Division Two match against Derbyshire at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff.

Jones has recovered from a calf injury suffered against Northamptonshire at Colwyn Bay but he did return in the loss to Yorkshire on Monday.

All-rounder James Harris is also included having been released by the England Under-19 selectors from the one-day series with Pakistan, due to Glamorgan’s injury worries.

Ryan Watkins is out having sustained a groin injury during last week's county championship encounter with Somerset, while Ben Wright is also unavailable as a result of a finger injury.

Opening batsman Gareth Rees is recalled to a 13-man squad for the match with Derbyshire.

John Morris

John Morris takes charge of his first Derbyshire match

New Derbyshire head of cricket John Morris is keeping his cards close to his chest as he prepares for his first game in charge.

Morris succeeded David Houghton on Tuesday but gave nothing away ahead of the clash other than telling the Derbyshire players to expect changes.

The 43-year-old said: “I will do things my way and some changes will be made.”

Batsman Michael Dighton is available after missing the championship defeat to Leicestershire with a thigh injury but recovering to play in Sunday’s NatWest Pro40 loss to Surrey.

Fellow batsman Hassan Adnan will hope to keep his place in the side after returning to first team action with 63 in the first innings against Leicestershire although he made nought in the second. He replaced 17-year-old Dan Redfern who suffered a toe injury.

Opener Phil Weston and Dan Birch may be competing for the same place again. Weston will be confident of inclusion after his innings of 72 on Sunday although Birch was given the nod last time out in the championship.
