Charlie Shreck took eight wickets as Nottinghamshire kick-started the defence of their title by dismissing Middlesex for 49 in their Liverpool Victoria County Championship clash at Trent Bridge.
The 28-year-old claimed a career-best 8-31 to follow his four-wicket haul in the first innings, inspiring victory by an innings and 33 runs – Nottinghamshire’s first of the season.
Australian batsman David Hussey earlier laboured to 107 out of Notts’ first-innings total of 358, a lead of 82.
Middlesex were without captain Ben Hutton due to shingles, and they were dismissed for their lowest Championship score since 1963.
Min Patel took four wickets as Kent claimed a
95-run win against Durham in Stockton.
Ottis Gibson finished with a six-wicket haul in Kent’s stubborn second innings of 411 - they had been 101 for five at one stage - to set the hosts 364 for victory.
Jimmy Maher fell one short of a century during the run chase, and Durham fell short despite Dale Benkenstein’s contribution of 70.
Stuart Law’s century helped Lancashire earn a first-innings lead over Warwickshire at Edgbaston.
Resuming on seven for one, Law struck 121 and was supported by Iain Sutcliffe (69) and Kyle Hogg (44) as the visitors were dismissed for 317, a lead of 144.
Stumps were called before Warwickshire started their second innings.
In Division Two, Worcestershire were on the verge of forcing Essex to follow on at Chelmsford, while Zaheer Khan has the chance of taking all 10 of the hosts’ first-innings wickets.
The visitors declared on 650 for seven after Gareth Batty had struck an unbeaten century. Essex’s Khan then took nine wickets for 65 in 21.3 overs as the hosts were reduced to 186 for nine, 464 behind.
Travis Birt led the fightback for Derbyshire against Gloucestershire in Bristol, hitting an unbeaten 89.
The hosts were dismissed for 456 in their first innings, with Martyn Ball and Jon Lewis striking half-centuries.
Derbyshire were reduced to 21 for two but Birt came to the rescue and they finished on 175 for three at the end of day two.
Glamorgan took control of their clash against at Northamptonshire. David Hemp was dismissed one short of a century as the visitors were dismissed for 354, a lead of 176. The hosts were 81 for three at stumps on day two.
Surrey lost their last four first innings wickets for a single run as Somerset edged ahead at Bath.
Charl Willoughby finished with a four-wicket haul and the dramatic collapse meant Surrey were already 76 behind when Somerset started their second innings.
Matthew Wood’s half-century had extended the lead by stumps on day two, with the hosts on 148 for three.
