Somerset were denied the chance to build on their impressive opening stand as rain prevented any play on day two at Taunton.
With Marcus Trescothick and Justin Langer having moved the score along to 110 without loss on a rain-hit first day against struggling Surrey, the west country side would have been looking for maximum batting points.
But rain - which has wreaked havoc around the counties - meant no play was possible.
A draw now seems almost certain - although that will do little to boost either Somerset's title challenge or Surrey's hopes of survival.
