Hick on verge of milestone

Graeme Hick will be hoping that Worcestershire’s game against Surrey sees him pass 40,000 first-class runs in his career.

The veteran run-machine is currently standing on 39,936 first-class runs, needing just 64 to reach the mammoth milestone.

He has been named in an 11-man team to take on Surrey at New Road, with Kyle Hogg continuing his loan period from Lancashire.

Captain Vikram Solanki will be looking to take his excellent one-day form into the game with Worcestershire currently lingering at the bottom of the LV County Championship Division One table, just below their opposition.

Meanwhile, Stewart Walters’ consistency has been rewarded with a place in the Surrey squad.

Walters will provide an extra batting option to bolster the side after last week’s innings defeat at the hands of Kent at Whitgift School in Croydon.

Jade Dernbach’s recent performances, including his two wickets in the Friends Provident Trophy match against Essex on Sunday, have also earned him a called up. He has come in as a replacement for Mohammad Akram, who has been left out because of a calf strain.

Leg-spinner Chris Schofield is named in the 13-man squad at the expense of Nayan Doshi.
