Floodlit cricket will come to Lord's in early September

Lord’s will host its first floodlit match after MCC was granted permission from the local council to use temporary floodlights.

Middlesex have switched their final home NatWest Pro40 game of the season - against Derbyshire on September 10 - from Southgate to Lord' after gaining approval from Westminster Council.

“This is marvellous news,” said Middlesex chief executive Vinny Codrington, who expressed his gratitude to the MCC and its secretary and chief executive, Keith Bradshaw.

“I must thank Keith Bradshaw and his staff at the MCC for helping us move heaven and earth to get this match staged at Lord’s.

"I'd also like to thank Southgate CC for agreeing that the game could be moved.

“I’m sure that the opportunity to see floodlit cricket for the first time at the home of cricket will be a mouth-watering prospect for any cricket supporter.”

Bradshaw added: "Lord's is a world-class venue and we're always looking at ways to maintain and improve our facilities.

"A match under temporary floodlights will not only end the season at Lord's on a high note, but will provide us with very useful information with regards the staging of such matches here."
