Nonington Girls Under 13shave won through to the National Final of the Lady Taverners Girls Club Competition.
Nonington Girls, the leading girls team in the Canterbury and Dover area, and currently top of the SeaFrance Sportmatch East Kent League, reached the final by achieving the best strike rate in a ‘bowl out’ which became necessary when wet weather ruled out any play in the London and South east regional final.
Each of the eight Nonington players were given three attempts to bowl at a wicket in the bowl out which was conducted under independent adjudication, and between them, they hit the stumps ten times out of 24.
Nonington team manager Marie Pape commented: ” When we phoned the result through to the ECB we had no idea what the other teams had scored, but then later that evening we received an email confirming that we were through. In fact our score of ten was way out in front compared with the other clubs in the south east bowl out. We are delighted to have reached the final.”
Nonington Girls, along with Headstone Manor (Middlesex) will now represent the London and south east in the Lady Taverners Final at King Edward School, Birmingham on Sunday July 15th.
Unfortunately Kent girls clubs could not make it a double final celebration as Holmesdale Ladies Under 15s (Sevenoaks) hit the stumps four times which was just one strike away from qualification.
