The Somerset cricket museum is preparing to re-open its doors for the start of the new season on April 3, after several signficant changes have been made in the off season.
The museum is rated as the best cricket museum behind the famous Lord’s museum and in an effort to keep that tag, Somerset have been busy setting up new exhibits.
With West Indies due to pay a visit to Taunton for a three-day match starting on May 12, one of the new exhibits focuses on players from the Caribbean who have played for Somerset, including the mighty Joel Garner and Sir Viv Richards.
There is also a display to commemorate RJO Meyer who captained Somerset in 1947 and went on to found Millfield School, which has provided county and international cricket with several excellent players.
Those who take a keen interest in Somerset cricket and its history will also be interested in a display board dedicated to the various grounds on which Somerset have played their home matches, including Rowden Road at Wells.
The museum opened in 1989 and is situated in the old Priory Barn that dates back to the 15th century. It is run independently from the cricket club and is a registered charity.
