Derbyshire's hopes of winning their first trophy since 1993 have been given a boost after they signed West Indies all-rounder Wavell Hinds for the Twenty20 Cup.
The 31-year-old all-rounder originally signed as a Kolpak player for the entire season, but his application for registration failed to fulfil the registration requirements.
The new deal, which sees Hinds join as an overseas player, means he will turn out for the county in each of their 10 Twenty20 Cup matches as well as the LV County Championship encounter against Essex.
He will also be available for the quarter-final of the Twenty20 Cup should the Phantoms qualify.
The revival of the Hinds signing means that current overseas player Chris Rogers will take a mid-season break as originally intended.
"I have always been keen to bring Wavell to Derbyshire as he has all the qualities we are looking for – experience, ability and character," said head of cricket John Morris.
"It hasn’t worked out as planned but by coming in for the Twenty20 period he will give us a fresh impetus and real expertise in that format of the game.
"He is an exciting player, contributes with both bat and ball and is just what we need for Twenty20 cricket."
Hinds averages 33 with the bat in 45 Tests and almost 29 in 114 one-day internationals.
Hinds made just 14 in his only Twenty20 appearance for his country, although his strike-rate for Jamaica is an impressive 112 from seven games.
