South Africa batsman Herschelle Gibbs will represent Glamorgan in this summer’s domestic Twenty20 Cup competition.
The Welsh county have confirmed the 34-year-old, who has made 90 Test and 227 one-day international appearances, has been cleared by Cricket South Africa to join up with Glamorgan from June 11.
Glamorgan cricket manager Matthew Maynard said: "I'm absolutely delighted that Herschelle will be joining us for our Twenty20 Cup games.
“After discussions with Jason Gillespie, it was always our intention to sign a world-class batsman for this competition, and with so much Championship cricket at the back end of the season, the signing of Herschelle means that Jason will be able to return to action in the other competitions having had a short break.
“Herschelle has an outstanding track record, especially in the shorter form of the game, and I’m sure that our supporters will be eager to see in action for Glamorgan a man who entered the record books in the 2007 World Cup by hitting six sixes in an over.
“He will certainly complement the experience and talent which Jason will offer to us in other competitions.”
Gibbs is relishing a busy summer with several commitments.
"I am really excited to be joining Glamorgan for the Twenty20 Cup in 2008, which will also be my first experience of county cricket,” he said.
“Matt Maynard's plans and vision for Glamorgan, and for Twenty20 cricket, were a key factor in my decision to join the club and I am hugely excited about the role I can play for the side."
“I will be coming straight from our Pro20 competition in South Africa and then the Indian Premier League, so I will be in the perfect Twenty20 mindset to help drive the Glamorgan team toward finals day, and hopefully some silverware.”
