Matthew Walker has signed an extension to his contract with Kent which takes him to the end of the 2008 season.
The 32-year-old scored 1,419 Liverpool Victoria County Championship runs at an average of just under 62 in 2006, including a top score of 197.
Walker said: “I am delighted to be continuing my career with the county. I have been pleased with my performance this season and was honoured to have been voted as player of the year again by the supporters.
“I have enjoyed playing under Rob Key this season and feel we have a squad of players who can do really well over the next few seasons. I look forward to playing for the club in many years to come.”
Paul Millman, Kent’s chief executive, added: “Matthew has just finished his best ever season for the club.
"He remains an integral and popular member of our playing squad both on and off the field and I am sure he will continue to play an important role in Kent cricket.”
