Pakistan and New Zealand secured their places in the semi-finals of the Under-19 World Cup on Monday after defeating Australia and Sri Lanka respectively.
Pakistan took a six-wicket victory over Australia at Kinrara Oval with Ahmad Shahzad’s 40 and man-of-the-match Ali Asad’s 63 not out enabling them to surpass Australia’s total of 129. Pakistan now face South Africa on Friday.
New Zealand’s score of 213 proved too much for Sri Lanka as George Worker made 48 and Fraser Colson 39 before Tim Southee ripped the heart out of the Sri Lanka top order as they slumped to 44 for four to finish 81 runs short.
The result means the Kiwis clash with India in the other semi-final on Wednesday while Sri Lanka meet England in the first Plate semi on the same day. Bangladesh face Australia in the other.
