India held their nerve to win the Under-19 World Cup by beating South Africa by 12 runs under the Duckworth/Lewis method at the Kinrara Oval.

India struggled to muster a total of 159 after they were put in to bat as only Tanmay Srivastava, with 46, made a significant contribution.

In reply, South Africa needed 116 to win from 25 overs after the second innings was reduced because of rain.

South Africa eventually required 26 runs from the last two overs but tight fielding and bowling saw them fall short.

When India batted they were always wary of taking on the fielding side with SA Englebrecht, Rilee Rossouw, Jon-Jon Smuts and wicketkeeper Bradley Barnes all outstanding.

Englebrecht claimed two spectacular catches, one to dismiss Srivastava and another to remove captain Virat Kohli and he also ran out Iqbal Abdullah while Parnell, Matthew Arnold, Mohammad Vallie and Roy Adams all claimed a brace of victims.

India soon had the South Africa batting in trouble as Ajitesh Argal got rid of Pieter Malan and Rilee Rossouw with just six runs on the board as they reached 17 for three before rain interrupted play.

Reeza Hendricks made 35 upon resumption but South Africa lost wickets too regularly and eventually fell short and India captain Kohli received the World Cup from ICC President Ray Mali.
