England’s Performance Programme squad were frustrated after posting a huge first-innings total on the second day of their four-day match against an MRF XI in Chennai.
Jonathan Trott (82), James Hildreth (63) and captain Tim Ambrose (53) all hit half-centuries as England built on a solid first day’s work before declaring on 498 for seven, with Adil Rashid unbeaten on 28.
The hosts made painstakingly slow progress in reply, closing on 85 without loss after 46 overs and 181 minutes at the crease.
Graham Onions bowled 11 overs for just 11 runs, with every member of the attack garnering economical figures but unable to make a breakthrough.
