West Indies batsman Runako Morton hit a stunning double-century against MCC on day two at the Racecourse Ground but a draw still looks on the cards.

It was a career best from the Leeward Islander, whose previous highest first-class score had been 114, as the Windies finished the day on an impressive 340 for four from 81 overs - 80 runs clear of their opponents with six wickets in hand.

The last three MCC wickets were polished off inside the opening hour as Fidel Edwards claimed two of those to fall, with a breathtaking catch on the run from substitute fielder Dwayne Bravo the highlight.

Bravo, running from backward square to deep mid-wicket, pulled off a magnificent over-the-shoulder diving catch to dismiss Mali Richards.

The all-rounder also held on at backward point off Darren Sammy, who then caught last man Robbie Williams in the slips off Edwards as the MCC added 26 runs to their overnight total before they were bowled out for 260.

After Devon Smith (16), promoted up the order to replace injured opener Chris Gayle, had been bowled by Barbados-born paceman Ruel Brathwaite, Morton took over.

Not all of the tall right-hander's shots went as planned, but the majority came off the middle of the bat.

While Daren Ganga dropped anchor and was patience personified in compiling a 40-over 47, Morton blazed a trail at the other end.

Ganga eventually edged Williams to wicket-keeper Paul Dixey to end a partnership of 161 for the second wicket.

Undeterred, Morton continued his demolition of the MCC bowlers with his 50 coming off 60 balls and his hundred 49 balls later - a century that included 18 fours and one six over long-on.

The tourists reached 211 for two at tea and there was little respite for a limited MCC attack in the final session.

Morton gave one chance when, on 139, he drove Simon Butler to mid-on.

Brathwaite, however, allowed the ball to go straight through his hands and to the boundary.

It proved a costly miss as Morton went on to add another 62 runs and complete his double-century in the final half-hour.

A cut for four off Butler brought up the landmark but the medium-pacer gained revenge when he trapped Morton lbw for 201 with 10 minutes remaining.

Earlier, Sylvester Joseph was caught and bowled by leg-spinner Jamie Morris for 41.

A draw would now appear inevitable after the Windies ended the penultimate day with a first-innings lead of 80 runs with six wickets in hand.

The main objective, however, was for the frontline batsmen to spend time at the crease and, Smith apart, that was comfortably achieved.
