Rose Bowl gets green light

Rose Bowl

The Rose Bowl is set for a £45m development of the whole ground and facilities

Hampshire can press on with plans for the £45million development of the Rose Bowl, after receiving a final official go-ahead.

The county confirmed in a statement that a Government review has ratified the unanimous approval which was granted in March.

Hampshire chairman Rod Bransgrove said: “This is fantastic news, because it brings the realisation of our superb new development a major step closer.”

Hampshire are hoping their established one-day international venue can become a regular host of Test matches, with an inaugural match already inked in for 2011.

Bransgrove notes too, though, that the Rose Bowl must maximise its potential as a stage for county cricket too.

“It is worth reminding ourselves that this development is not just about the hotel and international cricket,” he added.

“Although they are both vital elements in securing the future of our club, the new ground development will also provide a fabulous environment for county cricket - and I am particularly excited for our loyal Hampshire members who will soon be able to enjoy some of the best facilities in the country.”
