Hants Under-17s exact revenge

Hampshire got their revenge on Durham after the Friends Provident Trophy final by comprehensively beating them in the Under-17 County Championship final at Hove.

They wrapped up a 334-run victory before tea on the second day of two after bowling Durham out for a disappointing 136.

After the first day's play, Hampshire had found themselves in an extremely strong position having compiled the highest score in the history of this final.

Having won the toss and elected to bat, two dropped catches by the Durham fielders contributed to the healthy position Hampshire built for themselves.

In 11 overs, Hampshire went from 300 for five to 446 for six, with the innings closing on 470 for eight after their alloted 100 overs.

Durham set about chasing down the daunting target on day two, but lost an early wicket as Jonathan Rickard was bowled by Tom Friend with the score on 19.

The second wicket fell just before lunch when Ben Stokes was bowled for 23 and at 78 for two the task facing Durham looked more impossible than ever.

After lunch a steady fall of wickets meant that Hampshire had the upper hand as they turned the screws on the opposition.

Danny Briggs bowled superbly to return figures of 5-19 from 19 overs and Friend finished with 4-30, giving Hampshire the title.
