Thornbury girls claimed the European indoor Under-17 Cup with a final ball win in Berlin last weekend.

Eight teams from Germany, Hungary, Holland and England took part at the Brandenberg Indoor Arena on Saturday and Sunday February 16 and 17.

Thornbury started slowly, but steadily built momentum to record three wins on the first day.

They were then able to produce an immaculate performance on day two to soundly defeat the experienced Dutch National Team in the semi-final and book their place in the final against Shirehampton.

The two English teams produced a thrilling final - fortunes swayed back and forth and, as the game reached its climax, Thornbury needed 24 runs from the last two overs.

It fell to Laura Marshall to stroke the final ball through the covers to score the three runs required from the last ball.

Thornbury's victory was down to a series of outstanding team performances, led by captain Charlotte Walker, with all the other girls in the squad (Lottie Maiden, Emily Waldron, Sophie Williams, Flic Mann, Rosie Tregear, Hannah Thompson, Harri Harris and Laura Marshall) playing their part.

Many parents made the trip and their presence was a vital factor in the successful trip.

Tregear gained the most valuable bowler of the tournament award with eight vital wickets, whilst Walker was judged the most valuable batter, having been retired on a maximum score in every match.
