India have secured the second npower women’s Test at Taunton with England by five-wickets and have also taken the two-match series 1-0 after a draw in the first match.
The tourists got home after hitting the required 98 runs for victory for the loss of five wickets with wicket-keeper Karu Jain making the biggest impression with 34 while young left-arm spinner Holly Colvin took 2-26 for the home side.
Earlier, England had been bowled out for 305 with Jhulan Goswami taking 5-45 and 10-78 in the match, she became the first Indian to do this in a Test and the eleventh in all Test matches.
England resumed on 205 for two but Edwards, who had been undefeated on 100 overnight, could add only five more before she became another Goswami victim.
Edwards and Caroline Atkins (68) had added 178 for the third wicket but Goswami soon had the wicket of Jenny Gunn in her collection.
Beth Morgan and Jane Smit compiled 43 crucial runs for the seventh wicket as the home side were eventually bowled out leaving India 98 to win.
