Herschelle Gibbs has been found guilty of misconduct by Cricket South Africa following an outburst by the Proteas batsman while playing with the Nashua Cape Cobras.

The 34-year-old was called before CSA’s disciplinary commissioner Michael Kuperin in Johannesburg on Wednesday, where he was severely reprimanded after being found guilty of breaching clause 1.4 of the governing body’s rules and code of conduct.

The clause reads: “Participants shall not use crude or abusive language nor make offensive gestures to any other participant, official or spectator.”

Gibbs’ appearance follows a report lodged by match referee Barry Lambson, arising from an incident that took place during the Standard Bank Pro20 Series match at Newlands on March 26.
