Essex Eagles and Lancashire Lightning complete thumping wins

Surrey and Derbyshire Falcons also pulled off impressive victories in reduced matches.

NORTH GROUP

Notts Outlaws 91 lost to Lancashire Lightning 178/7 by 87 runs
Yorkshire Vikings 83/3 lost to Derbyshire Falcons 84/1 by nine wickets

SOUTH GROUP

Surrey 129/9 beat Gloucestershire 92 by 37 runs
Essex Eagles 152/2 beat Hampshire Hawks 150/6 by eight wickets

LIGHTNING STRIKES TRENT BRIDGE

Lancashire Lightning remain unbeaten in this year's Vitality Blast and continue to look a force to be reckoned with. Power-hitters Liam Livingstone and Tim David were promoted but it was Keaton Jennings who did much of the damage against Notts Outlaws, his 55 at the top of the order setting a strong platform for the range hitters around him. Their performance with the ball was even more electric. The Outlaws slumped to 11/4 with Alex Hales having failed to face even a ball. Liam Livingstone picked up three wickets but they were shared round the bowlers, as Notts made just 91.

EAGLES WIN BATTLE OF BIRDS OF PREY

Essex Eagles made light work of Hampshire Hawks at The Cloud County Ground. The Hawks could not get going, Ben McDermott scoring a run-a-ball 38 opening the batting, and only some late hitting from Ross Whiteley and James Fuller got them to a passable score. But four of the Hawks bowlers went at more than 10 an over and the partnership between Michael Pepper and Matt Critchley proved devastating. They added exactly 100 in 50 balls, Pepper smashing his way to a fabulous 75 not out, to secure a thumping win.

JACKS OUT OF THE BOX

For most of the match at The Kia Oval, Will Jacks looked the only player who could hit the ball at all. Only three Surrey batters made double figures, with the 23-year-old crunching three big sixes on his way to 51. Surrey's 129 in a 16-over match looked below par but they had Gloucestershire four wickets down inside the reduced Powerplay, and from that the visitors never recovered. Sam Curran was the match-winner with the ball, ripping through much of the top order and finishing with figures of 4/14.

MALAN OUTSHONE IN REDUCED MATCH

Dawid Malan's 23-ball half-century looked a fantastic knock in an eight-over match against Derbyshire Falcons. But the visitors were not to be discounted despite losing Luis Reece cheaply. Chasing 84 to win, Shan Masood and Wayne Madsen proved the steady and experienced hand, their 69 run partnership at more than two runs a ball the deciding factor in a nine-wicket victory.
