Waca confirmed to host its final Ashes Test

The New Perth Stadium will not be ready in time for the start of the third Test on 14 December.

Cricket Australia have confirmed that the Waca will host the third Ashes Test in Perth this winter.

The 60,000-seater New Perth Stadium was proposed as the venue for the start of the Test match on 14 December, but it will not be ready in time due to construction delays.

It means one final Ashes fixture for the iconic WACA, where England have only recorded one victory in 13 Test matches, which came back in 1978.

James Sutherland, the chief executive of Cricket Australia, has suggested that the New Perth Stadium could yet host the ODI match between the two sides on 28 January.

“Part of the good news is there’s still a very strong chance the one-day international will be played at the new Perth Stadium,” Sutherland said.
